This year we will be celebrating 10 years of marriage. Ten years of ups and downs, growing up together, and growing closer to each other. Ten years of memories, inside jokes, new things, hard things, selling things, moving away, moving home, job changes, arguments, encouragements, master’s degrees, empty rooms, unfulfilled dreams, and more.
While the “to-do list anxiety” isn’t always intense, there’s usually more on my list than any human can get done in a day. It’s as if I feel I must achieve this paltry list, crumpled and written on a grocery receipt or else…
We become Pharisees ourselves when we chide our children with all their imperfections, but fail to confess our own.
I’ve been entangled in jealousy… which stems from prideful comparison… which exists in me because complete satisfaction and identity in my Abba Father, doesn’t. And I’m imprisoned.
Even if you never move further than up or down your block, we all live lives of transitions. I love to hear the back-stories on books or movies. This week Looming Transitions: starting and finishing well in cross-cultural service, a labor of love by me, was published.
I thought this year would be one of DOING much for the Kingdom, of discovering “what’s next” in ministry, and yet the Lord is reminding me to focus on BEING with Him.
Why do we continue to allow ourselves to be seen by our own goodness instead of allowing others to see His grace and mercy and love through our brokenness?
God is a Master Artist. He reimagines and refashions and redesigns our most tragic life circumstances into His own masterpiece.
The world asks me, “What are you waiting for?” Implying that I am the one that needs to make things happen, and get things the way I like them. Do what I want, when I want, and get results, fast. But my God asks me, “No Amy, WHO are you waiting on?”
