When Jesus Wrecks Your Comfortable Christianity + Free Giveaway!

We at STG believe we should strive to preach the gospel to ourselves daily in an effort to quiet the enemies in our minds, so we can listen to Jesus in our hearts. Our goal is purely share how we replace negative self talk with Biblical truths. After stumbling across Jen Hatmaker’s “Interrupted”, we love that it is a narrative of a family who asked the hard questions of church once they admitted to the tensions they felt in their lives.

What Israel Taught Me About Peace

Over the last handful of years writing has been therapeutic and healing through my deepest sorrow and grief, and yet for some reason, well, for lots of reasons, writing has seemed impossible. Even in my most inspired moments my brain and heart and fingers have seemingly been members of an entirely different human body. But today there seems to be a glimmer of light in the shadows and so I’ll tap away on these keys and give you a little looksee into my heart. Read on if you dare.

How to Be the Church We Were Meant to Be

We, the church, have failed and we fall short, but we already intimately know how beautiful and mysterious God’s grace is. Let’s accept it again and watch in awe as it covers these very failures to unimaginable depths. Let’s live this thing out, let’s work out our salvation in fear and trembling, letting God work though us to fulfill His purpose.

Why I Don’t Want Christian Kids

Being a parent is not for the faint of heart. Everyday my husband and I are faced with this unique job to shepherd, train, influence, and teach our 3 girls. While we are grateful that our children have all verbally committed their lives to Christ, we realize that their spiritual journey is just beginning. And at the risk of sounding a bit heretical, I need to say we don’t want Christian kids…

A Woman’s Greatest Calling

Well done, good and faithful servants!

The words we all long to hear :) You made it! Congratulations to you on being here – your high school graduation. If there’s ever a time where young girls question their relevance, purpose, and position in Christianity, it usually comes when they are about to embark on this brand new journey, outside of the comforts of their own homes, on their way to the unknowns of college.

On Being Reverenced By Humanity

Last month it was announced that the most beautiful woman in 2014, is a woman of color. This isn’t the first time this has happened, but as I listened to the news reportings on this, Lupita Nyong’o shared that her journey along the way wasn’t easy.

Because He is God

At nineteen years of age, I decided to come to terms with a dark past that had kept me burdened for almost 10 years. While I was ready to begin the healing process of the abuse that had occurred for the majority of my childhood, I wasn’t prepared for the time or the means it would take to get me there.
